make your own perfume at home!

ever wanted to make your own perfume?

know the smells you love, cant find them in a shop bought perfume?

want a unique smelling scent?

just want to have some fun!

this is great to get a few friends together, and have a perfume making party!

some cocktails and some fun!

cant go wrong, well it can, it can smell bad, but one mans trash is another mans treasure, in this it is totally up to you what you want it to smell like, and thats the beauty of it!

here i will teach you how i make my own perfume, and you can adapt it to your own requirements,
change the scents, change the equations.

what you will need:

  • esesntial oils/ fragrance oils of your choice
  • scent bottle of your choice
  • perfumers alchahol or other
  • pippetes
  • beaker/shot glass
  • mixer
  • paper and pen
  • a nose :)

enjoy!

this is my box of magic, also my box of essential oils, fragrance oils and more beautiful things.
(i got bought this box from my mum as a house warming gift, its an antique cutlery chest)

inside the box of magic! all my perfumery goodies and more!
this is all my essential oils and fragrance oils.

YOU WILL NEED TO CHOOSE MULTIPLE FRAGRANCES THAT YOU LIKE, THEN USING THIS "GUIDE TO ESSENTIAL OILS" YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY AMOUNT OF TOP NOTES, MID NOTES AND BASE NOTES,
THE TOP NOTES NORMALLY DISSAPEAR FROM A SCENT AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES, THE MID NOTES STAY A BIT LONGER, THE BASE NOTES TEND TO STAY ON THE LONGEST.
IF YOU CANNOT FIND WHICH NOTE A CERTAIN SCENT IS, PLAY AROUND WITH IT, SEE HOW LONG IT LASTS, ON YOUR SKIN.

you will also need, a pippete or two. a paper mixer to see what the perfume smells like, and a beaker, a shot glass is suffice, i like the plastic ones, there easy to pour!

perfumers alchahol and alot of other perfumier goodies can be found on my favourite site "plush folly"
a paper and pen to jot down your equations. and create your recipe so you can make the fragrance again and again.

here i have jotted down the list of ingredients.

you play around with a few drops at a time, and sniff,
you can drop them straight onto a cotton pad to avoid too much waste.

you can see from here the second column "drops" is how many drop i used, 5 drops of each.

then i chose a figure to work from generally ten is good for me, this figure is the strength, ten is an all rounder, you go up from there to create stronger smells.

you multiply all the drops by the chosen strength figure, in this case ten!
making 5 drops of mango into 50 drops of mango, 2 drops of vanilla into 20 drops of vanilla.

i mix it all and sniff!

if this is the desired smell then time to add the perfumers alchahol.
if you dont want to use alchahol you can use unscented oils such as coconut oils, or jojoba.
there is also a little trick of mine which i love using, orange blossom water. its beautiful and alchahol free!

mix and pour.

i generally make my perfumes 30ml.
hence the shot glass.
i pour or pippete the alcohol into the oils, mix and ta dah!

add the perfume into your chosen container.

and apply to pulse points, never rub together as that will crush the scent molecules, softening the scents!
